hope in winter

there aren’t many plants that flower in winter, but the end of February sees the eruption of early season bulbs, like snowdrops, crocuses and winter aconite.

originally from southern Europe, this beautiful small flower is a member of the buttercup family and is naturalised in the south of the UK. I found a wonderful carpet of these yellow flowers underneath the ancient English Elm trees in Preston Park, Brighton and used a new technique to try and cram in as many blooms as I could.
